Yachting

Probationary Members who are boat owners (or become boat owners) can maintain a mooring in the BRYC mooring field, which requires a mooring permit. The mooring permit, which may be applied for by the boat owner (estimated fee is $210) from the City of Bridgeport Harbormaster.  The club will set member-purchased moorings, and offers continuous launch service during the season for members’ access to their boats and shore upon return.

The Ideal 18 Program offers one-design sailing and racing access to a number of club-owned boats for a seasonal participation fee.  There is also Ideal 18 Winter Frostbiting. There are weekly Wednesday and Friday evenings intra-club Chowder Races, as well as Men’s and Ladies Big Boat Sailing to introduce members to crewing skills.

Long Island Sound racing against other area yacht clubs completes the yachting experience available at Black Rock Yacht Club.  Corinthian (ages 21 – 34) and Special Activity (Ideal 18 privileges for those 24 and older for a maximum of two years) classes of membership are available for those wishing to enhance and enjoy sailing at Black Rock Yacht Club.

Swimming and Tennis

BRYC offers a swimming pool, two tennis courts and a newly-built bathhouse for the enjoyment of its members.  Adults-only areas and swim times are provided.  The membership enjoys Men’s and Ladies’ Tennis nights, and adult tennis tournaments that are open to all whom wish to participate.

Junior Activities

BRYC has a robust Junior Activities program. It includes sailing, tennis, and swimming/diving, with instruction and club team competition offered for each.  Minimum age for tennis participation is 7 years old. The fee is established each spring, but is estimated to be $750 per activity per child for the 8-week program.

Sailing for Juniors

The junior sailing program is very large, with over 75 participants and there are club-owned boats available for a season rental fee of $750. However, we do encourage parents to purchase boats for their children.  Depending upon their age group, junior members may sail Optimists, Pixels, Lasers or 420 sailboats.  For older Junior members, there is also Junior Big Boat Sailing available.

Clubhouse Dining and Social Events

The menu and food are recognized as among the best on Long Island Sound, as are our indoor and outdoor dining views.  Black Rock Yacht Club is a family oriented club with an exciting and rich year round calendar of social and entertainment events. Particularly, during the high season, there are numerous social activities, with multiple events almost every week. The highlight of the social season is the Commodore's Ball, which takes place in early June.  There is a Holiday Party every year in early December. There are also smaller events like luau by the pool, Kentucky Derby party, Family Movie Night and food based events like tastings and cooking demos.
